Gary Maxey returns to Vinita, Oklahoma as the Senior Managing Partner with Maxey Law LLC. From 2003 until 2016 he served the people of Craig County as Associate District Judge, handling a variety of cases such as civil, criminal, family and domestic, guardianships, DUI’s, probates, adoption, drug and mental health courts, and assortment of jury trials, just to name a few. He retired from the bench to take a position as Director of the Oklahoma Supreme Court’s Northwest Early Settlement Mediation program out of Enid. During his term on the bench, he was also asked to serve as Vice President of the Oklahoma Judicial Conference, working on judicial and educational programs for Oklahoma’s state judiciary.
While in Enid he established a general law practice and began taking Animal Law cases, a new and rapidly growing area of the law. He presently is the Chairman of the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Animal Law Section and a member of the Oklahoma and Texas Bar Associations.
Prior to his appointment as Craig County Associate District Judge he served as Special District Judge in Garfield County. Before joining the State Judiciary, he held the position of First Assistant District Attorney for Garfield County.
In 1988 he was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives from District 40, serving two terms, and was Chairman of the Criminal Justice Committee both terms. While in the legislature he worked at reforming Oklahoma’s criminal laws and procedures.
He received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa College of Law and Bachelor of Science degree from Oklahoma State University, Stillwater.
He is admitted to practice before the Northern and Western Federal District Courts of Oklahoma. Mr. Maxey studied at the Northwestern Pritzer School of Law in Chicago, Illinois.
Contact GaryMorgan Maxey is a partner at Maxey Law, LLC. His practice focuses primarily on Criminal Defense, DUI Defense, Family Law, and Animal Law. Mr. Maxey is a graduate of the University of Tulsa College of Law where he received his Juris Doctor. Prior to law school, Mr. Maxey graduated from Vinita High School after which he attended Oklahoma State University where he received Bachelor of Arts degrees in Theatre and Creative Writing. He also attended the London Theatre Academy. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Maxey worked as an actor in Chicago, IL, performing stage theatre and improv.
After receiving his J.D., he worked as the Director of Early Settlement Mediation for the Oklahoma Administrative Office of the Courts on behalf of the Oklahoma Supreme Court. He is certified by the AOC as a Civil Law, Family Law and Child Permanency Mediator. Mr. Maxey subsequently began his work as Defense Counsel for the Oklahoma Indigent Defense System (OIDS) in Enid, Oklahoma where is appointed work spanned across 5 western Oklahoma counties. Since his work as a public defender and moving back to Northeast Oklahoma, he has had the pleasure of joining his father and brother in starting Maxey Law, LLC. Mr. Maxey is a District Board member for the Oklahoma Bar Association’s Young Lawyer Division and has been published in the Oklahoma Bar Journal. He is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, the Oklahoma Criminal Defense Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the OBA Animal Law Section.
Mr. Maxey is admitted to practice before the Cherokee Nation Tribal Court and the Muscogee (Creek) Nation Tribal Court.
Contact MorganGarret Arlo Maxey is a Partner at Maxey Law LLC. He is a graduate of The University of Tulsa College of Law, where he received his juris doctorate. Currently, Garret splits time between teaching college and high school courses for Northeastern Oklahoma A&M University and Vinita Public Schools along with practicing law for Maxey Law. Prior to law school Garret was a graduate of Vinita High School. He then attended Northeastern State University as a member of the basketball team before transferring to Oklahoma State where he earned his bachelor’s degree in political science.
Garret’s legal practice focuses primarily on Criminal Defense, OMMA Contract Law, Family Law, Small Claims, and General Traffic Violations.
Contact GarretLegal Intern Joseph Hicks was raised in Northeastern Oklahoma and graduated from Vinita High School, before getting his Bachelor’s Degree from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. He is currently a law student at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, where he is studying Criminal Law.
Joseph speaks English and Russian, has lived in and around the Vinita area for nearly a decade, and plans on practicing in Northeastern Oklahoma after becoming a licensed attorney.”
